- The two international European groups of this edition come from Poland and Lithuania.
The 69th International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja has passed its halfway point receiving on the stage of the Municipal Theatre four groups in the competition phase: the only two international European groups that will compete this year and two more from South America. They are the Kaunas Kamertonas mixed choir from Lithuania; the Ensamble Vocal Macondo from Medellín (Colombia); the Concordia Choir from Warsaw (Poland) and the Chamber Choir from Copiapó (Chile).
All of them performed first “Sal de mi vida”, by Víctor Daniel Lozada, a habanera that must be performed by all the groups that compete for the prize of the Contest, together with two habaneras and two free polyphonies. The jury, chaired by Nuria Fernández and with Julia Foruria, Filipa Palhares and Robert Sellés as members, was very attentive to all this. David Colado acts as secretary.
In this evening has appeared before the media the prestigious stage director Emilio Sagi who has emphasized the recognition and international prestige that has the Habaneras Festival of Torrevieja. Sagi has stated that the Eras de la Sal is an idyllic setting, next to the sea, for the development of this event declared of international tourist interest and hopes that the new project combines the modernity of the year 2023 with the essence of such an emblematic place. It has also been given appointment tonight the composer Jorge Lopez torrevejense, highlighting the importance of the roots of the genre of habanera for the consolidation of the Contest, something that has experienced firsthand. Lopez, who is a member of ADDA-Simfònica (Symphony Orchestra of the Provincial Council of Alicante) and vocal coach of ADDA, has also noted the high level choral year after year presents the competition and has been proud to be an ambassador of Torrevieja and the province of Alicante through music.
THIS FRIDAY THE COMPETITION ENDS
Tomorrow, Friday, the competition will end with three Spanish choirs and the only Asian choir competing in this 69th edition. They are the chamber choir of Extremadura (Badajoz), the ‘Nubah’ from Granada and the young choir Las Veredas from Colmenarejo, as well as Kammerchor Manila from the Philippines.

This July 27, the “Tardes de Habaneras” at the confluence of the commercial streets Concepción with Fotógrafos Darblade, have had the exhibition of the polyphonic choir ‘Adelis Freitez’ from Venezuela, who competed in the contest on Wednesday evening.
