We are in the imaginary city of Cantabreda, in the north of Spain, next to its estuary there is a tavern run by a beautiful woman – Marola – and her father – Juan de Eguía – who make people believe that they are married.
Juan de Eguía is, in reality, a smuggler who deals in drugs and tobacco and, taking advantage of the fact that the local sailors are in love with Marola and envious of him for believing her to be his wife, he asks his daughter to engage Leandro, a young sailor, to go and pick up a stash of cocaine hidden in some caves.
Marola does not dare to ask him and Juan de Eguía compromises the sailor by revealing the reality of the relationship and promising him that he will give him his daughter if he agrees to remove the bundle of cocaine. Out of love Leandro agrees and Marola goes with him, when a storm causes the sea to swallow them up.
The young people can be rescued, and when the truth is known, Juan de Eguía is arrested and love triumphs in the couple.
