La Tabernera del Puerto
The stage of the Municipal Theater of Torrevieja is transformed into Cantabreda, a fictional town in northern Spain where love, smuggling and betrayal are intertwined in “La Tabernera del Puerto”, a zarzuela full of emotion, tension and musical beauty that will premiere on Sunday, April 6 at 7:00 pm.
Produced by Compañía Lírica Alicantina, it takes place in a simple tavern by the estuary, and tells the story of Marola and her father, Juan de Eguía, who hide a dark secret. Marola’s beauty has captivated the sailors of the port, but everyone is unaware of the true relationship between the two. Juan de Eguía is not only her father, but also a smuggler, who sees in the attraction of men to his daughter an opportunity to continue his illicit business.
The story takes a turn when Juan de Eguía convinces Leandro, a young sailor, to recover a shipment of drugs hidden in some caves, promising him Marola’s hand in exchange. A storm at sea puts their lives at risk, but when they are rescued, the truth comes to light and the fate of each character is resolved in a shocking climax where love and justice prevail.
With an enveloping score and a story that keeps the viewer in suspense, “La Tabernera del Puerto” is a must for lovers of zarzuela and musical theater. In addition to these three major events, the week began with a double session of the “School Concerts” event, organized by the Conservatory of Music, which brought together 1,200 children in a unique experience to bring them closer to the world of music. And also, for three days, the Educational Guidance Fair has been visited by more than 20schools, where students have been able to learn first-hand about various options to continue their education, from university studies and vocational training cycles, to itineraries to prepare for competitive examinations and access to the Security Forces and Corps.
