Torrevieja already looks to 2024, the year in which the International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony will reach its 70th edition. The mayor and president of the Board, Eduardo Dolon, has been responsible for closing an edition “characterized by the high level credited by all participating choirs and is already at the height, and even more, the parameters that were given before the pandemic. The head of the contest had words of congratulations for the entire team that makes up the organization and also for all the choirs of the city of Torrevieja, which have in this performance every July the most vibrant moment of the year. The mayor wanted to thank especially the “love, support and material support of the Generalitat Valenciana accredited not only with the presence of the President himself and two of his ministers in these days, but with the economic commitments made to the torrevejenses to further enhance the international promotion of the Contest and what will soon be the new enclosure of the Eras de la Sal.

In this evening, along with the mayor and as proof of this strengthened support from the Generalitat Valenciana, was present the Councillor for Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism,  NuriaMontes de Diego who announced to the media that his department is already working with the Board of Habaneras to “recover the line of promotion and collaboration to provide the economic support it deserves a contest as the Torrevieja is declared of international tourist interest and cultural merit medal of the Generalitat Valenciana”.

The Vice President of the Board of Trustees, José Antonio Quesada, has been very satisfied with the organizational outcome of the course of the Contest in which twelve choral groups from three different continents have competed. He explained that the Board is already working on all the details for 2024, which aims to improve the already extraordinary edition that now ends.

With these expectations, comes to an end an extraordinary edition of the contest, in which the torrevejenses groups have had a leading role from start to finish. Thus, in this closing evening have gone through the stage of the Theatre the four torrevejenses choirs that had not done so in the previous days: the choral mass “José Hódar”, the choral group “Manuel Barberá”, the Orfeón de Torrevieja and the Master Choir Casanovas, which brought together choristers throughout his career to tuck the farewell of its director, Sabina Martínez Boj. A night with habaneras of proven popular roots, which were long applauded by the audience that completely filled the available capacity. A very emotional gala that links with the pleasant taste left in the first two evenings by the Symphony Choir of the Municipal Choir School, the choir and orchestra Maestro Ricardo Lafuente and the choir torrevejense Francisco Vallejos.

Before reaching the moment of closure, the presenter Elena Sanchez has shown its gratitude to the Board for the opportunity to return to Torrevieja to conduct this edition of the contest that has been so brilliant.

The band of the Musical Union Torrevejense with the choristers of the city have been responsible for putting the finishing touch to this edition of the contest with the interpretation of the hymns to Torrevieja, Valencia and Spain. Thus begins the countdown to consolidate seven decades of passion for the Habanera. It will be in Torrevieja from 21 to 27 July 2024.
