Presented the 8th edition of “Torrevieja Audiovisual”, National Short Film Festival

The jury of this new edition is composed of Aurora Carbonell, Miguel Molina, Paola García-San Juan and Edou Hydalgo.

On Friday 1 and Saturday September 2, will take place at the Municipal Theatre of Torrevieja, from 21:15 pm, the 8th Edition of TORREVIEJA AUDIOVISUAL, National Short Film Festival. A film festival with a long history that seeks to value the national talent with high quality films and short films to bring them to the city of Torrevieja.

The councilman of Culture, Antonio Quesada and the filmmaker and director of TORREVIEJA AUDIOVISUAL, Lidiana Rodríguez have presented this new edition of the festival and have announced this year’s jury, which is composed of Aurora Carbonell, Miguel Molina, Paola García-San Juan and Edou Hydalgo.

To attend the festival you can purchase free invitations at the box office of the Municipal Theater of Torrevieja.

This year 11 works have been selected, 5 in animation and 6 in fiction. All works are in Spanish with English subtitles and free admission with invitation. Invitations can be collected the same days of the event at the box office of the municipal theater of Torrevieja from 20.45h until 21:00h the same days of the event, Friday 1 and Saturday September 2, 2023. The screenings begin at 21:15h.

As every year, the authors of the works will attend both days and will present their short films to the audience before each screening, as well as the professional jury that will attend together with the filmmakers to announce the winners on the last day.

The short films selected for official competition for this year 2023 are:

“Me llamabas septiembre” by Fernando Bonelli, “Boxfox” by Ángela Ronco, Juan José Romero and Aurora González, “El cacharrico” by Oscar Toribio, “Ya no mueren por amor” by Inés Campello, “Un día de Mierda” by Vanesa Romero, “Dennis” by Carlos Beceiro and Guillermo Garzón, “La Rampa” by Juanfer Andrés, “Leo” by Sergio Postigo, “1996” by Ramón Mascarós and Carlos Escutia, “Actos por partes” by Sergio Milán and “Lullaby Aquarium” by Ana María Mendicote and Querarlt de Miguel.

SHORT FILMS IN OFFICIAL COMPETITION (Synopsis):

On Friday 1, programming is recommended for ages 12 and older and on Saturday 2, programming is recommended for ages 7 and older according to ICAA ratings.

1.          ACTS IN PARTS

Directed by Sergio Milán (Based on real events)

Synopsis: Marta’s cancer returns with a vengeance. Tired of her fate, she decides to throw in the towel. It will be then when three stories will come to her to, from the most unexpected humor, help her to rewrite her destiny.

2.          BOXFOX

Directed by Ángela Ronco Núñez, Juan José Romero Cortina, Aurora González Segura

Synopsis: An intrepid fox adventurer travels through a dangerous fantasy world to find an enigmatic girl whose face appears on a mysterious card. 

3.          DENNIS

Directed by Guillermo Garzón, Carlos Beceiro

Synopsis: Dennis, an employee of the most important evil factory in hell, is going to prove why he is the worst at his job. 

4.          EL CACHARRICO

Directed by Oscar Toribio Carbayo

Synopsis: Angustias is an elderly widow who lives a sad and anodyne life because she misses her late husband. One day she receives a mysterious package and when she opens it she finds inside a strange object she has never seen before. With the help of her friends, she will try to find out what “el cacharrico” is for.

5.          LEO

Directed by Sergio Postigo Cruz

Synopsis: Based on the true story of Leo, a 10-month-old Labrador retriever who, after being swept away by the strong current of a water channel, gets lost in the Irati Forest. His owners, Pablo and Lucía, will do the impossible to get him back.

6.          LULLABY AQUARIUM

Directed by Ana María Mendicote Brañas, Queralt de Miguel Rosique

Synopsis: Three little brothers are bored during a mass. At a certain point they fall asleep and dream of a huge aquarium inside the cathedral.

 7.          YOU CALLED ME SEPTEMBER

Directed by Fernando Bonelli

Synopsis: Julian is king of his little piece of park. Today, perhaps, he is a little less so: a girlfriend seems to have invaded his bench. Life, they say, is the sum of our decisions. Those of then mark your present; those of today will decide your future.

8.          A SHITTY DAY

Directed by Vanesa Romero

Synopsis: Un día de mierda tells the story of one of the most important days of Leti, who is devastated when her boyfriend leaves her at the altar. Leti walks aimlessly along a road and along the way she meets Noelia, who is on the road to Santiago de Compostela. On the side of the road, both women discover what it really means to have a shitty day.

9.          NO LONGER DIE FOR LOVE

Directed by Inés Campello

Synopsis: The hippocampus, scientific name of the famous seahorse, is a beautiful creature that acts as a small machinery for measuring the quality of water and that has inhabited the land since before the arrival of humans, something that is quite curious because they have been the main cause of their extinction, causing them to no longer die “for love”. 

10.    1996

Directed by Ramón Mascarós , Carlos Escutia

Synopsis: A girl and her father travel to the family home in the city, where they reminisce about the past and discover the things they have in common. A story of love and loyalty, of parents and children.  

11.    LA RAMPA

Directed by Juanfer Andrés

Synopsis: Justo, who has to carry his granddaughter Lola (a girl with cerebral palsy) up the stairs at the door of his house every day, decides to go to a meeting of his community of neighbors to ask for the installation of a ramp.
