On May 25 at 7:00 pm, the theatrical piece “La Colección” will be premiered in our city, starring two great artists of the Spanish stage: José Sacristán and Ana Marzoa. The play tells a deep and reflective story about memory, identity and the link between people and objects.
The show is based on the reading of a news item, in which a married couple of art collectors wonder what would happen to their collection when they are no longer there. Its director and writer is Juan Mayorga, one of the most acclaimed playwrights of the contemporary scene, with a career recognized with the Princess of Asturias Award for Literature (2022), the National Theater Award (2007) and the National Award for Dramatic Literature (2013), among many others.
The history
The Collection introduces us to the life of Hector and Berna, a married couple of collectors who have devoted their lives to building a unique collection, sacrificing everything for it. Now, in their old age, they are looking for someone to inherit their legacy. To do so, they have summoned Susana (Zaira Montes), a young collector who could be the chosen one, and Carlos (Ignacio Jiménez), an enigmatic character whose presence is a mystery: is he an examiner or just another piece of the collection?
With a script loaded with symbolism and philosophical depth, the play invites us to reflect on the meaning of legacy, attachment to objects and personal identity through an enveloping plot full of intrigue.
Two theater legends
The show features the stellar performance of José Sacristán and Ana Marzoa, two iconic acting figures.
