La Bohème, composed by Giacomo Puccini, is one of the most beloved and performed operas in the world lyric repertoire. Premiered on February 1, 1896 at the Teatro Regio in Turin under the baton of the young Arturo Toscanini, the work was enthusiastically received and established Puccini as one of the greatest composers of his time.
Along with Madama Butterfly and Tosca, La Bohème holds a special place in the hearts of audiences for its touching humanity and the intensity of its emotions. The libretto, written by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, is based on “Scènes de la vie de bohème”, a collection of stories by Henri Murger that portrays the vicissitudes of young artists and dreamers in 19th century Paris. In this context, Puccini found the ideal material to create a work rich in realistic detail, imbued with lyricism and emotion. The music of La Bohème combines tenderness and passion, with memorable melodies such as the “aria Chegelida manina” and the “love duet O soave fanciulla”.
In LA BOHÈME, we will find ourselves in the Latin Quarter of Paris in 1830. It reflects the artistic and bohemian atmosphere of the time and tells the story of four characters, Rodolfo, a writer, Mimi, a seamstress, Marcello, a painter and Musetta, his lover. All of them united by love, heartbreak, joy, sadness and misery.
It is a moving story that leaves no one indifferent and goes straight to the heart of the audience. Our production will transport the audience to the Parisian atmosphere transmitting all the emotion of this wonderful opera.
This co-production with the Opera de Massy (PARIS) will tour more than 40 cities in Spain, Portugal and France. LA BOHEME is one of the most popular and performed operas of the universal lyric repertoire. OPERA 2001 toasts with this new production for Maestro Puccini and for a new success of our company.
