One dinner, four friends, and a lie that gets out of hand…. How far would you go for your friends? How far would you go to maintain a fiction and be loyal to them? These are the questions you will have to answer after watching this fun play that comes to the Municipal Theater of Torrevieja this Saturday October 19 at 19:00 pm.
The play takes place on the same night, during dinner. It is about the lie of a group of friends who decide to simulate a non-existent reality in order to protect Belén, one of the characters. The need then arises to invent stories to hide their own insecurities and create a fiction where everyone can become a better person.
But in the end, the dirty laundry of all the characters will come out and that group of seemingly perfect and pleasant friends will bring out the worst in each one of them, as individuals and as a group. The value of friendship and sincerity will be questioned and egos and envy will collide with each other.
ANIMALES DE COMPAÑÍA is a choral play about four friends who have known each other for a long time and get together to celebrate a homecoming dinner. Belén has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital. Javi – Belén’s ex-partner and absent character in the play – has decided to break off his relationship with the girl because of her instability and has gone to live in Australia with a new partner. This information is known to all the friends except the affected girl herself, Belén, who was knocked unconscious after taking a whole bottle of pills in a suicide attempt to draw attention to herself and, in principle, does not know that she has become single.
Before Belén returns home, and while they finalize the details of the dinner, Alex -who has long been in love with the girl- confesses a secret to the rest of his friends: while Belén has been hospitalized, he has pretended to be Javi. He has made Belén believe that Javi and she are still together. The lie has slipped out of his hands and now that the girl is about to appear, he is forced to involve the whole group in his lie. He asks them to participate in this deception in which he plays at being who he is not.
The critics have been especially in favor of this fun play during its run in Madrid, with very good reviews such as “”The story engages with its intrigue, entertains with its development and adds doses of fun, creating an immersive theatrical experience” and also “It is a perfectly choreographed show that knows how to keep us attentive to every line, to every movement”.
Directed by Goya award winner Fele Martínez, the cast includes the equally Goya winner Laura Galán, and also Mónica Regueiro, Iñaki Ardanaz, Silvia Marty and Jorge Suquet, experienced actors and actresses from theater but also from TVE, Antena3; from feature films and from Netflix, Prime Video and Movistar+ platforms.
