As every year, Torrevieja hosted this past Saturday April 22 the 28th International Youth Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony. A contest that began in 1995 to complement the International Contest and aims to enhance the presence of youth and children’s choirs internationally.
For the competition phase, 4 out of 10 choirs were selected and the piece they had to perform was HBNR2 – Lyrics by Ana Galindo and Music by Jordi López as well as 2 habaneras of free choice and a choral work. The participating choirs were:
- ARSIS CHOIR OF THE SCHOOL OF DIVERTIMENTO, Oviedo (Asturias)
- SS. CYRIL AND METHODIUS CHOIR, Velés (Macedonia)
- ENTREOLIVOS CHOIR, Dos Hermanas (Sevilla)
- CORO ENCANTO, Griñón (Madrid)
After the competition phase, while the jury designated the winner of the contest, the Coro Sinfonía de la Escuela Coral Municipal and the Coro Menudos Cantores de Madrid delighted the audience with a repertoire full of Habaneras.
After deliberating the verdict, the jury, composed of Juan Pablo de Juan, Arkaitz Mendoza and Bernardette Khune, proclaimed Coro Encanto as the winner.
