The 29th International Youth Habanera Contest has been held.
Last Saturday, April 20, the 29th International Youth Habanera Contest was held, where the children and youth choir of Baao (Philippines) was the winner.
On the other hand, the Las Veredas Choir (Madrid) and the Escolanía del Conservatorio “Hermanos Berzosa” (Cáceres) have won the second and third prizes respectively in the choral singing contest for youth choirs.
The technical commission of the Patronato had selected five groups to compete: the choir of the conservatory ‘Hermanos Berzosa’ of Cáceres, the choir ‘Entreolivos’ of Dos Hermanas (Seville), the choir ‘Las veredas’ of Madrid, the cantoría ‘Solfa’ of Cuba and the Baao Children’s Choir of the Philippines. All of them performed the piece ‘Habanera de la sal’, with lyrics by Belén Puente and music by Antoni Mas.
Together with them, the choir ‘Sinfonía’ from the Municipal Choir School also performed, directed by Selena Cancino Escobar, with a repertoire mostly made up of habaneras. The organization of the contest had appointed Jordi Blanch, Elisa Gómez and Mariano García as jurors of the youth festival.
Concert by the Francisco Vallejos Choir on the occasion of its 70th Anniversary
The outstanding Coral has been part of the history of habanera singing in Torrevieja for 70 years, since 1954. It is celebrating with a series of events announced by the president, José Miguel Ferrández, the director Belén Puente and the councilman of Culture, Antonio Quesada.
The events began this past Sunday, April 21, at 12 noon, at the Municipal Theater, with an extraordinary concert that brought together the current members of the choir and 50 of its former members, including founders.
The concert program included works by maestro Francisco Vallejos, zarzuelas, sacred music, polyphony with Latin rhythms and habaneras. Finally, a requiem was held in honor of the deceased members of the Francisco Vallejos Choir.
